Fay St. Marie has been painting since the 1970s but started fulltime since leaving the nursing profession in the early 1990s. She has studied under a number of artists and won several awards for her works. Her paintings hang in private, corporate, Government of Saskatchewan and the University of Saskatchewan collections. In January 2011, Ukrainian Museum of Canada in Saskatoon purchased the painting "Laundry Time" for their collection.

Saskatchewan was where Fay spent her childhood and obtained her education. She worked as a nurse in Saskatchewan, northern Alberta and the NWT. In 2005 she moved back to British Columbia, her birthplace. Fay has a studio at her Parksville home.
